16 large button mushrooms
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional: 1/2 cup cooked sausage, crumbled
For an added twist, experiment with different cheeses. For instance, mixing in some feta or cheddar can offer a delightful variation in taste.
Preparing the Mushrooms
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Clean mushrooms with a damp paper towel and remove stems. Chop the stems finely for the filling.
Making the Filling
Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped mushroom stems and sauté for 3-4 minutes until soft.
If you’re adding sausage, cook it with the stems until browned. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat.
Stuffing the Mushrooms
Arrange mushroom caps hollow-side-up on a baking sheet or in a baking dish.
Fill each with the cream cheese mixture.
Sprinkle breadcrumbs on top for crunch, if desired.
Baking Time
Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and tender.
Cool slightly before serving.
